BioEden Guild Rankings
Euler through Xylar for first campaigns, with honest press caveats.
The Cosmic Collective is five guilds, not one personality quiz. Focus Entertainment’s store copy is clear: each guild has its own identity, abilities, and archetype, they share the goal of healing the planet, and your pick changes how you work. The Steam tutorial does not let you live that pick. It is a training path. This page ranks Euler, Orin, Darwin, Umbra, and Xylar for a first full campaign versus a Keeper who already understands recycle.
Treat the letters as advice, not patch notes. The Italian press site Everyeye played a roughly one-hour session in Paris and stated, in plain language, that the writers had not tested the five guilds. What they reported is developer intent: Euler on balance and efficiency, with cheaper and stronger construction; Orin as border mappers who lean on native resources; Darwin as biology, flora, and fauna study; Xylar as the expert path that turns dead matter into new life; and Mystic Guild Umbra as a slower, sanctuary-heavy, meditative route. Everyeye also described unique modifiers in two clusters: a technological guild that pushes heavier structure use, and a restoration-leaning guild that prefers recycle and can punish extra buildings more than the baseline. That is press, not a balance patch. The screenshot on this page is Umbra’s guild panel, not a ranked-play screen.
If you still need a first-hour loop, leave this list and finish Getting Started. Come back when you know whether you overbuild. Then open the guild picker with a real question instead of a vibe.
Beginner ranking for a first planet
S — Euler. If the tutorial taught you anything, it is that extra pylons feel productive and the globe disagrees. Euler is the closest match to “forgive my grid.” Cheaper, stronger construction means the buildings you actually need cost less pain, which is the beginner problem. You will still pollute if you ring the landing hex with factories. Euler does not delete the recycle button. It makes the small spine in power and water easier to keep small.
A — Orin. First hours are map hours. You walk hexes, salvage debris, and try to read what the planet already holds. Orin’s identity is mapping borders and native resources, which is the demo’s real homework. Orin will not hatch Landowl for you. Orin will make the outside loop—radar range, wreckage, water you purify instead of import—feel like the main game instead of a chore before the dome.
A — Darwin. Pick Darwin if the Bestiary is why you queued the tutorial. The archetype is close study of flora and fauna, which pairs with animal care and the DNA and Bestiary loop. Darwin is not harder than Euler on paper. It is easier to misread: you will want a zoo. The first campaign still wants one species in one honest biome. Darwin rewards Keepers who already like temperature, humidity, and plants more than they like extra solar.
B — Umbra (Mystic Guild Umbra). Slow is not F. Umbra is meditative, sanctuary-focused, and the developers told Everyeye that the Mystics’ obsession with sanctuaries and map secrets was intrinsically harder, after which they simplified guild roles so beginners still had a lane. That history is why Umbra sits at B for a first planet, not because the path is a joke. If you already tear unused buildings down, Umbra’s restoration lean—the press version that punishes extra construction more than usual—stops being a trap. If you still panic-build when a Collective Request mentions factories, wait.
Expert seat — Xylar. Everyeye named Xylar the expert guild in as many words. The creed is dead matter into new life. That is a beautiful sentence and a bad first week if you still treat the Orb Factory like a win condition. Xylar is not banned. It is the pick after you have recycled a planet back from an ugly globe and you want the campaign’s 15–20 hours to feel like a second language.
Expert ranking, Umbra perks, and the caveats that matter
Replay ranking is almost the reverse of beginner ranking, with one exception: Euler stays good. Efficiency is never a joke in a game that scores you on footprint.
S for experts — Xylar or Umbra, depending on your vice. If your vice is production, Xylar is the interesting constraint: dead matter into life, not more pylons into orbs. If your vice is still “one more building,” Umbra is the teacher. The Umbra level 6 panel in the guild UI lists perks such as Speed Reading (+15% research), Added Electrolytes (−10% device water), Terrain Cleaner, and Eco Device. Those are examples from that panel, not a promise that every guild shares the same level 6 board, and not a live patch file. Guild levels unlock perks as trust rises with your chosen path. Everyeye added that guild requests also feed narrative plants and political “divergences of intent” inside the Collective. We do not have the full script. Do not invent one.
A for experts — Darwin, then Euler. Darwin becomes stronger once you can keep predators away from prey and you are ready for more than Landowl. Euler remains the clean grid. B for experts — Orin only in the sense that mapping the first planet is no longer the puzzle; native-resource play can still be the fantasy you want, it is just less of a crutch.
Compare these letters with the other two lists on this hub. An expert guild does not rescue a Thudder hatch in a badly tuned dome; that is the animal rankings. An expert guild does not make Orb Factory spam free; that is the building rankings. The tier list hub exists so you do not treat one letter as a whole build.
How to pick before launch day
Ask one question: in the tutorial, did you recycle, or did a developer (or this wiki) have to tell you to recycle? If someone had to tell you, take Euler. If you already treated recycle as the core skill in restore the planet, Umbra or Xylar is allowed. If the Bestiary ate your attention, Darwin. If the fog of hexes ate it, Orin.
The 3 September 2026 release is still the date that turns this list from press into play. Demo saves do not transfer, so your training-path hours are rehearsal. Charles will still talk you through the tutorial if you do not skip it; he is not a guild. Read Charles if you expected a combat companion, then come back and pick a philosophy instead of a mascot.
When you are tired of letters, stop using this page as a scoreboard. Open the guild picker, answer the same five names as a conversation, and take that answer into the first campaign. The planet does not need your main. It needs a Keeper who will tear the extra factory down.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which BioEden guild is best for beginners?
Euler. Cheaper, stronger construction forgives a messy first grid. Confirm the five names in the guild picker before launch day.
Is Umbra bad?
No. Umbra is slow and sanctuary-heavy, which is B for a first planet and S if you already recycle. Pair it with restore the planet.
Did anyone rank these guilds from a full patch?
No. Everyeye reported developer intent and had not tested the guilds. This list is pre-launch advice. See the tier list hub for how to read the letters.
Can I pick a guild in the Steam demo?
The tutorial is a training path. Use it to learn recycle, then pick on the 3 September 2026 campaign. Demo rules sit in the demo guide.
Does guild choice change animal care?
Darwin leans on flora and fauna study, but diet rules still apply for every path. Read animal care before you mix carnivores with herbivores.
