BioEden Animal Rankings

This list ranks the extinct species the Steam tutorial actually names, by how kind they are as a first hatch. It is not a beauty contest, not a damage chart, and not the full BioEden roster. Focus Entertainment’s copy talks about welcoming dozens of species back into interconnected domes. The tutorial Bestiary still works in tabs—Forest, Jungle, Prairie, Savannah, Tundra—and the Jungle list is where most Keepers meet Landowl, Slink, Ributs, Basker, Fimble, Thudder, and Mirra. Named sites such as Red Forest show up on the planet widget; they are not extra secret animals.

Rank here means: can you spend DNA fragments, press Analyze, place an incubator, and keep that creature alive without turning the dome into a diet accident. Confirmed numbers belong to Landowl. Other names are real. Their exact temperature bands are not fully published here, so this page will not invent them. For the care loop itself—plants, bowls, humidity machines—use animal care. For fragments, the Analyze button, and the biome knowledge tree, use DNA and Bestiary.

Ranking by first hatch, not by cuteness

S — Landowl. This is the tutorial’s honest first bird. The panel lists a wide climate: roughly 20–45° temperature, 55–90% humidity, and ferns. That window is the reason Landowl sits alone in S. You can miss the perfect center and still keep the animal well. The biome knowledge tree even points you at Jungle research, then at placing the Landowl incubator in the same dome as the ferns. Cheap DNA relative to later Jungle names is the other half of the rank: you can afford a mistake and recycle the incubator if the room is wrong. Recycle still returns materials. There is no fail state. There is only a wasted afternoon if you skip the panel.

A — Slink, Ributs, Basker, Fimble, Mirra. These are the other Jungle names the demo Bestiary puts in the same conversation as Landowl. They are not filler. They are also not S, because this wiki will not pretend we have Landowl-like windows for each of them. Treat A as “hatchable once the first bird is stable and the dome already has plants, water, and climate tools.” Spend DNA on one of these when Landowl is reproducing without extra clicks, not because the portrait looked rarer. If a panel shows a narrow humidity band or a plant you have not unlocked in the knowledge tree, wait. The tree is biome-gated. Forest research does not automatically feed a Jungle hatch.

B — Thudder, as a first hatch. Thudder is the expensive name on that Jungle list. Expensive is not the same as bad. It is a poor opening buy. Your first DNA fragments should unlock a species you can actually house. Thudder becomes A or better later, when the dome already holds the right food and you are no longer learning what a humidifier does. If you rush Thudder because the silhouette looks like a trophy, you will starve your ability to fix the room. That is a ranking problem, not a lore problem.

Unnamed entries on Forest, Prairie, Savannah, and Tundra tabs stay unranked. A greyed portrait is not a C-tier animal. It is a reminder that this list is incomplete on purpose. Collective Requests also name creatures such as Scrofteusk and Vinex when a Mystic Guild job asks you to raise them to Shining Status. Until those names have a Bestiary panel with temperature and humidity, they stay off the letter grades. They are real; they are not secretly Landowl.

Diet is a hidden rank

Everyeye’s press session described a wellbeing and diet system inside the domes: if you park a carnivore next to a herbivore and give them bowls that make a hunger spike easy, the carnivore can eat the herbivore and erase the DNA you spent. That rule collapses every letter grade. A Thudder you cannot house is B. A Landowl you place beside a predator is F for the afternoon, even though Landowl remains S as a first hatch.

Split the dome. Match food. Do not use “I am short on hexes” as a reason to mix diets. BioEden will let you do it. The rank list will not save the save. This is also why Darwin as a guild fantasy—see the guild rankings—does not replace room layout. Biology study does not make two diets occupy one watering hole.

Cocoons and incubators are the other half of ease. Official copy tells you to gather DNA samples, place cocoons, and tend temperature, humidity, and vegetation. The tutorial presents the incubator as the initial stage of a new species. Rank assumes you will place that incubator in a dome that already has a climate spine: humidifiers and air conditioners from the building rankings, not a ring of Orb Factories outside. Animals do not care that you can produce orbs. They care that the room is 20–45° when the panel says so.

Why this list will move after launch

The 3 September 2026 campaign is scheduled to last 15–20 hours and to bring the rest of those dozens of species. When that happens, first-hatch S-tier may still be the generous-window creature in whatever biome you land in, and it may still look like Landowl’s cousin. It will not stay a seven-name Jungle argument.

Until then, do not scrape fan wikis for fake stats. If a number is not on the Bestiary panel, it is not on this page. The screenshot here is that Bestiary UI, not a finished Pokédex. Charles will tell you to place the incubator and follow the open steps; he will not tell you Thudder is a starter. For the robot’s actual job, see Charles. Use this list as a spending order. Analyze Landowl. Hatch Landowl. Let it live. Then spend on one A-name from the same tab. Leave Thudder in the catalog until the globe on the HUD looks like a planet you would show the Cosmic Collective, not a construction site with a bird in the corner. That spending order is the whole ranking. Everything else is a portrait.
