Playing Outside and Inside in BioEden

The hex planet and the dome are one loop. Treat them as two rooms, not two games.

Outside and Inside

BioEden is a cozy solarpunk management game with two rooms. Outside, you walk a hex planet: debris, solar pylons, water lines, radar, purification, pollution, Impact Level, named sites such as Red Forest and Burnt Tundra. Inside a dome, you tend temperature, humidity, plants, food, and diet so extinct species can live. Focus Entertainment even asked Keepers, in a short official clip, whether they prefer to play outside or inside. The honest answer is both. The planet does not heal through structures alone, and the dome does not hatch animals without a spine feeding it.

The Steam tutorial teaches that bounce with Charles. You salvage wreckage outside, place a tiny power and water network, then step into a dome to put down an incubator. If you stay outside and stamp factories, the globe gets angry. If you stay inside and ignore the hexes, the dome runs out of energy and water. Getting Started is the first-hour version of that bounce. This page is the habit you keep after Charles stops holding your hand.

Demo saves do not transfer into the 3 September 2026 release. The two rooms still will. Practice the switch now.

Outside: hexes, networks, and the globe

The outside map is isometric, hex-based, and greedy if you let it be. Debris sites become resources. Solar generators make electricity. Water distributors feed buildings that need it. Radar expands fog. Lakes can be purified. Every extra machine nudges pollution and Impact Level. The planet widget at the top of the HUD is the grade: a Jungle at 8% pollution is a different session from a Prairie at 95% or a Burnt Tundra with a Crisis Alert.

Walk before you build. Hover a structure and read the tooltip. An Orb Factory that lists a large pollution hit is the outside map telling you production is never free. Connect the shortest cables and pipes that reach what you actually need, then stop. If a building sits idle, recycle it. Official FAQ copy says recycling reverses placements and returns materials. That is the outside verb. Pair it with power and water and restore the planet.

Collective Requests often want outside work: factories, stockpiles, exploration. Complete them when the globe can afford them. The Collective Requests page splits those jobs from the five launch guilds. A geomagnetic storm or a regulation that raises plant cost is still an outside problem. Do not panic-build a second dome because the hexes look noisy.

Inside: climate, diet, and one species at a time

The dome is a greenhouse with numbers. The Bestiary lists Forest, Jungle, Prairie, Savannah, and Tundra tabs. Landowl’s panel is the example this wiki quotes: roughly 20–45°, 55–90% humidity, ferns. Humidifiers, air conditioners, native plants, and watering holes are how you hit those numbers. Carnivores can eat herbivores if you house them together. Incubators and cocoons start a species. Animals can reproduce once conditions hold.

Stay inside until one creature is stable. Then go back out. A beautiful dome on a dying hex map is still a dying planet. Animal care and the Bestiary page are the inside reading list. Biomes tells you not to clone the first climate across every tab.

The official short clip is a prompt, not a quiz with a wrong answer. Some Keepers love the hex logistics. Some love the watering hole. BioEden scheduled a 15–20 hour campaign with no fail states so you can linger in whichever room is working. The switch is still required. Resources, energy, and water come from outside. Life happens inside.

How to switch without wrecking either room

Set a rule: one outside action, one inside check. Salvage a debris field, then look at the incubator. Place one solar pylon, then look at humidity. Finish a request card, then look at the globe. If the globe is climbing, recycle before you hatch. If the animal is stressed, fix climate before you expand radar.

Controls cover camera rotate, zoom, pan, and the recycle button that sits in the bottom toolbar on both views. Full controller support and DualSense mean the same bounce works on the couch when the 3 September 2026 release lands on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. The training path in the demo is the rehearsal. Launch morning lets you skip the tutorial. It does not let you skip the two rooms.

If you only needed one sentence: play outside to feed the dome, play inside to make the feeding mean something, and recycle anything that does not serve the next step. For guild flavor on top of that bounce, use the guild picker. For calendar facts, use Updates.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Should I play BioEden more outside or inside the dome?

Both. Outside feeds energy, water, and resources. Inside hatches species. Focus even asked Keepers that question in a short clip. Start with Getting Started.

Why is my dome fine but the planet looks dead?

You overbuilt on the hexes. Recycle idle machines using restore the planet and check power and water.

Why is the animal stressed if I have lots of factories?

Factories do not set humidity. Match the Bestiary panel inside the dome. See animal care.

Do Collective Requests happen outside or inside?

Either. Factory and stockpile cards are outside. Shining Status cards are inside. The Collective Requests page splits the tracks.
